Location information for Croatia

Croatia is the new Riviera of Europe, with its fantastic unrealized Adriatic coastline and its dazzling beaches. More and more travellers are foregoing the traditional beaches of Spain for Croatian resorts for a change and to save money. Croatian people are friendly, to boot, and prices here are cheap for hotels, food, and cheap car hire in Croatia.

The main places to head for in Croatia lie along the Dalmatian coast – the southern bit of Croatia's Adriatic stretch of coastline. Down here reside the cities of Dubrovnik and Split and hundreds of beaches in between. There are thousands of islands just offshore here to boot, making for great sightseeing and sunbathing potential.

Most people make a beeline for Dubrovnik, which has bags of appeal in its World Heritage old town, with its narrow, cobbled streets and ancient buildings, and for its unbeatable setting over the Adriatic. It has good shopping and nightlife to boot and is a good place from which to pick up a hire car.

Attractions worth checking out in Croatia's best towns of Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb (the capital) include world class museums and galleries, theatres, and lots of family amenities. Shopping options in these cities are also good and is often tax free. For entertainment, stick with Dalmatia and the many resorts along the coast.

If you have a Croatia hire car, the drive from Dubrovnik to Split is fantastic, taking in the coast and many little villages on the way. The A1 highway goes all the way from Split to Zagreb via the north coast. From Zagreb are numerous towns and villages and wine growing areas to check out.
